Extra Curricular Activities

Is there a significant difference in the non-academic/extra curricular activities between US and Asian students, in terms of its traditional forms? (Nagger, Khaled, Sarah)

I think that american students have much more extraular activities that i do believe they will surely promote their understanding of their own core curriculum.Researches have cocluded that students who take part in extra curricular activities usually achieve hgher scores than those who don't really participate in doing extra curricular activities.

the asian students do really practice some exra curricular activities but not as much as their american peers. asian studens do really spend much more time studying their core curriculum which in fact will help create a good knowledagable student but without the ability to create and be innovative . naggar

In my opinion the video did not show the real face of the American high school educational system. The video made a comparison based on time spent at school and studying. Asian students spent most of their day time studying or preparing themselves for school while the American students, especially Neil were so much involved in the community around them. Neil was the president of the environment club and he was raising money for that cause, he was working in a restaurant after school (20 hours/week), and he was one of the top students in Carmel High school.
No body denies that the system needs to be changed, but the life style of the American society is so complicated that I think it will take a decade or more for things to be changed.

The asians students took entrance test to university while the American students did not take. The Asian students did not make it while the American students got scholarship so they can enter a university they want. It does not mean that the American students is better than the Asian students. If they were in the same situation, the story would be different.

I think, students all over the world have the same ideology that means, they want the same freedom of life. It is true that the American students are more previlieged than the students of China and India. This type of opportunity makes a student more confident for his work. That is why the American students are more confident and they really enjoy their individuality and freedom of life. This type of self confidence is good and constructive, but over-confidence is destructive. Thanks...Alak Chakraborty
